Honor Magic V5: Ultra‑Slim Foldable

Honor Magic V5 Review

The new Honor Magic V5 redefines what a foldable smartphone can look and feel like. At just 4.1mm wide when open, it’s thinner than the Oppo Find N5 but packs a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a 6.43‑inch outer screen, a 7.95‑inch inner display, and a massive 5820 mAh battery that promises all‑day use. AI‑driven cameras and built‑in security features turn it into a powerful, privacy‑focused device.

Design & Build Quality

The Magic V5 measures 8.8mm when folded and weighs 217 g—lighter than a flag‑ship smartphone but still comfortable to hold. A polished metal frame, knurled camera bump, and a decorative hinge give it a premium look. The rear glass features a gradient that shifts from gold to black, while a fingerprint sensor in the power button and face‑recognition ready front camera offer quick, secure access. The device is IP58‑rated, giving it strong protection against dust and water.

Display & Performance

Both the outer and inner displays are 6.43‑inch and 7.95‑inch LTPO AMOLED panels that support adaptive 1‑120Hz refresh rates. The panels can hit up to 5000 nits peak brightness for an excellent outdoor viewing experience. Internally, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset runs the phone, paired with up to 16 GB of RAM and flagship storage options. Even though the form factor is slim, Android 16 brings a form‑fitting UI that showcases Magic Portal for multitasking, and AI algorithms help balance performance and heat.

Camera System & AI Features

The rear camera trio includes a 50‑MP main sensor with OIS, a 50‑MP ultra‑wide lens with OIS, and a 64‑MP periscope telephoto capable of 3× optical zoom. Generative AI powers a 30×+ super‑zoom mode, while a studio portrait mode delivers high‑quality bokeh. Though final software tuning is pending, early shots look sharp and detailed, promising strong nighttime performance once launched globally.

Software & Security

The Magic V5 ships with Android 16 and Google Play services, ensuring Gmail and other Google apps work out of the box. Security is topped up with a secure boot process, on‑device encryption, and support for two‑factor authentication—ideal for banking apps and other sensitive data. AI‑based power management further protects device longevity and data security.

Battery & Charging

At 5820 mAh, the battery can keep an inner display active for a full day of video. The phone supports 66 W wired charging and 50 W wireless charging, which means it can recharge quickly without over‑heating—thanks to silicon carbide tech and AI‑driven thermal control.

Availability & Pricing

The Honor Magic V5 debuted in China today with a wider rollout expected in 2025. Pricing details are still pending, but the phone promises to compete with rivals like the Oppo Find N5 and Samsung Z Fold 7, especially with its unbeatable thinness, powerful chipset, and robust battery.
