The Honor 8S featured a compact and lightweight design, weighing just 146 grams with a thickness of 8.5mm. Its construction included a plastic frame and back with a glass front, available in classic colors like Black, Blue, and Gold. The 5.71-inch IPS LCD display offered an HD+ resolution (720 x 1520 pixels) with a 19:9 aspect ratio, resulting in a screen-to-body ratio of approximately 78.1%. This tall design minimized bezels and provided a more immersive viewing experience for a phone in this category.
Performance & Hardware
Under the hood, the Honor 8S was powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 chipset, built on a 12nm process. This quad-core processor, with Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz, was paired with a PowerVR GE-class GPU. It came in two configurations: 2GB of RAM with 32GB of internal storage or 3GB of RAM with 64GB of storage. The storage used the eMMC 5.1 standard and was expandable via a dedicated microSDXC card slot, a valuable feature for a budget phone.
Camera
The camera system was simple and functional. On the rear, a single 13MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and phase detection autofocus (PDAF) handled photography duties. The Honor 8S launched with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, overlaid with Honor's EMUI 9 user interface.
